Taipei RNAL/C2C/EAC Submarine Cable System Faults

Incident Report for GSL

Update

Taipei is currently isolated from our backbone due to multiple submarine cable failures across four distinct systems.

- RNAL Segment AB (to Japan) – Cut, pending repair ETA: end of August.
- RNAL Segment DC (to Hong Kong) – Cut, pending repair ETA: 10th Sep.
- C2C Segment S2AB (to Hong Kong) – Cut, pending repair ETA: 4th Oct.
- EAC (to Japan) – Repeater damage, currently under repair ETA: 21th Aug.

Due to the unprecedented number of simultaneous faults affecting the region, all ad hoc options have been exhausted. At this time, we are unable to restore backbone connectivity to Taipei.

Restoration will be dependent on the completion of the listed cable repairs.

Update

Based on some back channel discussions, we find it likely this cable system won't be repaired for at least 6 months at this stage.

Should we get information that we can share regarding any potential repair we'll update, otherwise this status may end up un-changed for some time going forward.

Identified

We have noted a fault on segment AB (Japan to Taiwan) of the RNAL submarine cable system. At this stage, we are still awaiting updates, as the damage investigation remains ongoing. No estimated time of resolution (ETR) has been provided yet.

Traffic has automatically been rerouted through alternative paths. During this period, customers may experience increased latency.
